Iain MacKinnon’s practice focuses on corporate/commercial litigation, media/intellectual property law issues, and personal injury cases. Iain has significant experience litigating a broad range of matters for individuals and corporate clients. His first priority is to always act in his clients’ best interests. He has worked at both national full-service and boutique Bay Street firms in Toronto.

Iain regularly acts for major media organizations with respect to defamation, publication bans, search warrants, and access to court documents. Iain also represents writers, filmmakers, TV producers, and advertising agencies with respect to intellectual property issues and agreements.

Iain often assists corporations and entrepreneurs in resolving business issues such as shareholder disputes, breaches of agreements, and employment matters. In the personal injury field, Iain has a particular interest and expertise in medical malpractice cases. An important part of his practice is seeking and obtaining justice for those injured as a result of negligent medical care.

Iain fully understands and appreciates the needs and perspectives of in-house counsel. Iain spent five years as in-house counsel at CBC, where he managed litigation and advised senior management and internal clients on a variety of legal and business issues.

Iain often speaks at conferences and is a member of the Advocates’ Society and is a board member of the Canadian Media Lawyers’ Association. Iain is a busy father of four who spends any spare time he can muster going to concerts, watching documentaries, playing tennis, and following the Leafs and Blue Jays.
